NOTE: This article covers instructions on how to change the display type on a Roku Streaming Player. It is not possible to change the Display Type on Roku TVs as this is already built-in.

A Roku Streaming Player is a device you connect to your TV that allows you to stream content over the internet, for example; movies, television shows, live sports, etc. Just plug the player into your TV, connect to the internet, set up a Roku account, and start streaming your favorites.

On the other hand, A Roku TV is a standalone smart TV with built-in TV displays and an intuitive interface that works like a regular TV and can also let you stream content over the internet.

Your Roku streaming player Display Type can be manually configured to detect the best resolution and frame rate of your TV. Doing so can help to alleviate issues such as video freezing, skipping, the motion not being in sync with the audio, blank screen etc.

Resolution: Measures how much detail you can see on your TV screen.

Frame rate: The number of frames displayed each second. This is measured in frequency (Hz) or frames per second (fps)

When playing a video, what you see is a quick succession of still images, or frames, which creates the illusion of motion or animation.

How to manually change Roku Player display type:

  1. On your Roku remote, press the Home Button

  2. Select Settings by scrolling up or down

  3. Choose Display Type

  4. Select 720p. The HDMI connection will be analyzed by your Roku player.

  5. Select Ok, go to 720p HD

NOTE: Your screen may go blank while the HDMI connection is being analyzed by your Roku player.
